MISSION
Urban Sheds exists to champion the onsite craftsman lifestyle.
We bypass the heavy overhead and hidden processes of factory production, building instead with transparency and authenticity right in our customers’ backyards. This lean approach lets our artisans showcase the work they take pride in, while ensuring profits stay with builders, not factories. Every shed we build stands as proof that there’s a more sustainable, human, and authentic way to do business.

Founder's Story
I grew up on a 4-acre homestead in the small village of Waldeck, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, where my father was born and raised. Our family woodworking shop, started by my grandfather in 1956, was my childhood playground. Working alongside my father and grandfather, I crafted furniture and tinkered with my own projects, learning the value of craftsmanship, hard work, and the stories woven into every piece of wood. That shop was where I learned integrity, precision, and the value of relationships.
At 16, my family moved to western Massachusetts, and I joined a startup storage shed company as its first employee. I quickly rose to foreman and then shop manager, overseeing the production of thousands of sheds over a decade. But the fast-paced, high-volume environment began to feel empty. The craftsmanship I loved got buried under the grind of mass production, and I felt stuck and disconnected, like I’d lost the heart and the outlet for the creativity I experienced in my early childhood.
In 2014, I moved to Boston and founded Urban Sheds with a vision to build sheds onsite, and restore the freedom and creativity that comes from a direct customer-builder connection. Working directly for the customer reignited my passion for craftsmanship and built lasting relationships. A shed often led to a deck, a pergola, or another project, each project building trust and relationships that lasted years. Seeing a customer’s satisfaction became the heart of my work.
With modern technology, I saw a way to bring this approach to more people. I began recruiting craftsmen across the country who shared my vision of quality construction and local connection. To make this accessible, I built a website where customers nationwide can design their sheds online and connect with local builders who craft them onsite.
Urban Sheds combines the innovation, detailed blueprints, and dedicated customer service of a large business with the personal touch of small-scale craftsmanship, authentic relationships and customized care.
My mission is to not just build sheds, but to reawakening that sense of connection in every community we touch.

Our Philosophy
THE MODERN WORLD IS SPLIT IN TWO
All our sheds are first designed on the 3D Shed Modeling Software to get straightforward and accurate pricing before construction begins.
All our structures are built onsite to allow direct customer and craftsman interaction. On-site construction also allows the greatest flexibility of design and the greatest product and placement fit. If at any point in the project you think something isn’t quite right, a change order can quickly and easily be made directly with the builder.
All our builders follow local regulations as well as the structural guidelines set by Urban Sheds. Urban Sheds provides a 30 year structural warranty on all our buildings.
A recent report by Upwork predicts by 2028 the majority of the American workforce will be freelancers. We embrace this trend by outsourcing construction and recruiting and utilizing a network of freelance builders. Builders who join the Urban Sheds network, have access to the collective shed building knowledge and experience, including the ability to keep up with the constantly evolving best materials and building processes. Since freelance builders run their own businesses they are in more control of the money they make vs. an hourly employee. This model helps to build more resilient neighborhoods and communities where they live. Freelancers, as small business owners, are also deeply invested in their work and community.
In my lifetime, I’ve had my hands on thousands of sheds—and I look forward to connecting you with your local builder so you can experience the craftsmanship that is alive and well in your local community.
On one side is a race toward automation and robotics and the other side is the rise of the individual creators…the freelance artisans and craftsmen, providing a compelling alternative to mass production and cookie cutter products. These creators understand that the real value lies in relationships, experience and a connected story. Products connected to a particular artisan hold more value as a work of art than products that are mass produced at the cheapest price.
At Urban Sheds you are connected to a local craftsman and get to see and experience how the shed is built onsite. You are connected with a real local artisan who is a celebrity by virtue of their skill and craft. You as a customer are not just another number in the production line, you are a neighbor and friend. Our builders are not minimum wage factory workers or robots, they are craftsmen, artisans and small business owners that you may hire for many other projects around your house. Our builders are part of your local community and you may meet them in your local coffee shop.
While many corporations seek profits through centralization, robotics and mass-production, we seek it through beauty, onsite craftsmanship and relationships that are living and active in local communities. We believe physical communities are strengthened and held together by real world relationships. We believe our builders are not only building backyard structures, they are also building and maintaining the very fabric of the local communities in which they live.
When builders partner with Urban Sheds they are networked together across the nation sharing innovative ideas and keep up to date on building materials and changes in the market place.

EDEN: PEOPLE + PLANET
Wood, derived from trees, serves as the fundamental element in the construction of an Urban Shed, used to build the flooring, walls, and roof structure. Trees are an integral part of our environment, and play a vital role in establishing a stable climate and producing the oxygen essential for our lives. At Urban Sheds, we donate to Eden: People + Planet to give support for a healthy and thriving environment for the next generation.
