ABOUT URBAN SHEDS

Built on the belief that how something is made matters.

We celebrate ownership, craftsmanship, creativity and connection in every shed that's built.

OUR MISSION

To give homeowners something worth having and craftsmen work worth doing.

Urban Sheds believes homeowners deserve something worth having and craftsmen deserve work worth doing. We built a brand that brings the two together.

Every shed that's built is proof that a better way is possible — one where the craftsman thrives, the homeowner gets something made for their yard, and the community is stronger for the work.

A LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER

FOUNDER, URBAN SHEDS

"We give homeowners a vote for the kind of future they want to see — and craftsmen the chance to do work they genuinely love."

The industrialized shed industry is becoming outdated. We're building something new.

Not so long ago, backyard sheds were built onsite by a local craftsman. But as the industrial revolution took hold, things changed. Not just in the shed industry, but in almost every industry it touched. The focus shifted to low costs, speed and efficiency, driven by growing consumer demand on one side and the push for higher corporate profits on the other. For its time, that model worked well. It brought prosperity, full-time wages and steady work to people who had previously farmed the land.

But life has its cycles.

In recent years, consumer demand has been shifting rapidly, and so have the preferences of the people doing the work. Today's consumers are drawn to niche, brand-oriented products focused on human flourishing and a small environmental footprint. They want to know where their products come from and how they're made. They care about the story behind what they buy.

Worker sentiment is shifting as well. People are looking for meaningful work. Work that lets them express their creativity and build real relationships with the people they serve. The 9-to-5 assembly line of the industrial era is losing its appeal. Small business ownership, entrepreneurship and freelancing are on the rise. People are leaving the factory floor, and the limitations that came with it, to explore their full potential and connect directly with their customers.

Many people are breaking free from the 9-to-5 assembly line to do work they genuinely love.

In the shed world, these shifts are changing everything. The large factories and long-haul trucking that defined the centralized industrial model are no longer necessary. Craftsmen are once again building right onsite, in homeowners' backyards. The cookie-cutter designs that were engineered to be narrow, low and lightweight for transport are no longer a constraint, opening up real creative freedom in how sheds look and the quality with which they're built.

At Urban Sheds, we embrace and support these trends. We celebrate ownership, craftsmanship, creativity and connection.

We give homeowners a meaningful choice in how they spend their money, and a vote for the kind of future they want to see. And we give craftsmen the opportunity to do work that matters, build real relationships in their local communities, and grow a business they're proud of. No more being stuck on a 9-to-5 assembly line in a shed factory.

If that's a movement you want to be part of, start designing your shed online and get connected with a local Urban Sheds builder.

EDEN: PEOPLE + PLANET

Wood, derived from trees, serves as the fundamental element in the construction of an Urban Shed, used to build the flooring, walls, and roof structure. Trees are an integral part of our environment, and play a vital role in establishing a stable climate and producing the oxygen essential for our lives. At Urban Sheds, we donate to Eden: People + Planet to give support for a healthy and thriving environment for the next generation.
